Snow Angels

End of Season wrap up

Snow Angels has come to an end for this winter!

We invite our Snow Angels to a small wrap up gathering at the hall Saturday between 11 am and 12 pm for coffee and donuts to say thank you and celebrate the end of snow season.

If you are interested in being part of Snow Angels next year, you are also welcome to pop by the wrap up party, or email inquiries@ritchie-league.com

Pick up your shovels on Tuesdays, 10 am - 12 pm

Swing by the hall on Tuesdays starting February 18, from 10am -12pm to pick up your shovel and meet other volunteers.

Let's help each other keep Ritchie's sidewalks clear and accessible this winter!

Ritchie Community League is encouraging you to become a "Snow Angel" and help our neighbours in need of snow removal help.

Offering and asking for help are both important ways for our community to come together and keep our walks clear all season long!

SNOW ANGELS

Ritchie residents interested in becoming an official Snow Angel are invited to stop by the hall on Tuesday mornings between 10am to 12pm to register and learn more about the program.

Youth are welcome to register as Snow Angels alongside an adult family member.

With support from the City of Edmonton we have FREE SHOVELS to give away to the first 25 Snow Angels who register. (RCL membership required)

DO YOU NEED ASSISTANCE?

If you or a neighbour are in need of snow removal, please come to the hall and pick up a lawn sign.

OFFICIAL KICK OFF EVENT!

Join us at Ritchie Hall on February 22, from 11am to noon. There will be a short presentation about this program and shovel and lawn sign pick up. Coffee, hot chocolate and donuts will be served.

MORE DETAILS

All program participants (Snow Angels and neighbours who request assistance) will be entered to win a gift card to a local Ritchie business.

When the snow disappears for the year, all participants are invited to a wrap up event at the hall with great prizes!

This is a volunteer-run RCL program.

West Ritchie Garden Meetup

Last Wednesday of the month @ 7 pm

Season Series: April 2025 - September 2025

Location: 7900 A 101 St NW Edmonton, AB T6E 0B9

Would you like to join our garden committee to help run the garden?

The monthly meeting will occur in the garden on the last Wednesday of the month. It is a casual, BYOB meet-up where we talk upgrades, priorities, issues, grants, and stories.

All RCL volunteers must be RCL members/associate members. If you’re up for it, volunteers will help make garden clean-up, grant applications, or Instagram management easier.

What we need:

A small monthly commitment (1-5 hours) during the gardening season

What you get out of it:

  • Your voice will shape the future of the garden, including how grants are spent, how maintenance is assigned, and more

  • You will be guaranteed one garden plot for your effort

  • If you need a letter or reference for your time, one will be provided

The best part? The garden crew is a lot of fun, and the people are nice. We would love to have you join.

Email Hanna at garden@ritchie-league.com to sign up, or feel free to show up at the picnic tables around 7.

We will cancel or reschedule if the weather is particularly unpleasant.

WHAT IS A MEN’S SHED?

Men’s Sheds started in Australia over 30 years ago when a few retired guys got together to restore furniture and fix lawn mowers. There are now thousands of Sheds across the world, including over 10 in the Edmonton area. Each one is unique in that the men decide what they want to do. Many start as informal coffee gatherings and grow into collaborating on projects for companionship, training, teaching, mentoring, and to improve their community.

Find us on Facebook @MensShedsEdmonton

WHY A RITCHIE SHED?

In Ritchie, there have been few opportunities for guys to gather together and share stories. Our Shedders do that and also put their combined experience to good use, helping to maintain and improve our community facilities.

Our Shed is led by two community members, Dan and Doug, who have been with our Shed since the beginning. As a very experienced certified carpenter, Dan regularly brings his youthful community insights, professional guidance, job safety and quality control skills to our Shed. A retired banker, Doug loves coffee chats and herding the guys to dive into hands-on projects. Each week is different.

Please feel free to contact either one of them at their numbers above.

MEN’S SHEDS BENEFITS THEIR MEMBERS:

  • By having fun! They enjoy activities they have always loved or discover new ones.

  • By making friends.

  • By getting involved in their community.

  • By having a chance to share their own knowledge or skills, and learn from others.

  • By being in a place where they can be themselves.

  • By experiencing support that can enhance mental health.

  • By reducing isolation.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE

Since we began in April 2023, these have been some of our activities.
