Our response to the COVID-19 crisis
Hello Ritchie Community,
Ritchie Community League’s (RCL) top priority is to ensure our community is safe so we have been closely monitoring the evolving COVID-19 situation. After much consideration, the League decided Sunday, March 15, to implement the following measures to support our community:
Hall Closure
Following the lead of the City of Edmonton (and as of Tuesday, March 17, the Alberta-wide State of Emergency), the RCL hall will be closed until further notice. At the moment, the City does not have a date set to reopen. During the hall closure, we are undergoing a thorough cleaning to ensure the safety of the facility when we reopen.
Regularly scheduled Classes have been suspended. We are working with our instructors to explore options to deliver the classes online. We will contact class participants if their class will be made available online. For suspended programs, the League will reach out to participants to issue refunds. Due to volume, refunds may take some time to be processed. We ask for your patience as we try to issue them as quickly as possible.
Private Hall Rentals have been cancelled. Individuals who have booked the hall will be contacted by the League to refund any advance rental payments made. No additional bookings will be accepted at this time.
Community Engagement and Support for Ritchie
We continue to be so proud of the Ritchie community. Several individuals have reached out to express their interest in supporting each other within the community during this trying time.
Self-Isolation and Quarantine For individuals who have self-isolated or are quarantined and require supports, please check back here in the next few days for a list of supports, contact information and other resources. Join our Ritchie Community Assistance Facebook page dedicated to this purpose. If you do not have access to the webpage, you can call the League and leave a message at (780) 433-7137. We will return your call as soon as possible. Seniors seeking support can also contact the Scona Senior Centre Outreach at 780-433-5377.
For individuals who would like to offer supports to others who are self-isolated or quarantined, we certainly encourage that residents check in with your neighbours, particularly those who are vulnerable or have mobility issues. Check our Ritchie Community Assistance Facebook page often to see who needs help. When providing support, please follow safe practices and guidelines for interaction to avoid spreading illness. If you would like to be added to a list of volunteers willing to help, call or email email Stephanie, our hall manager (780-433-7137).
Staying Connected The League is exploring options for safe ways to get out (or stay in) and stay connected while adhering to social distancing principles like ravine walks or online presentations and workshops. Check here or the Welcome to Ritchie Facebook page and watch your email for updates from the league. You can sign up for these updates at the bottom of this page..
Let us know if there is something you would like to do or share with the community during this time. If you have an idea for an online workshop or presentation or if you would like to be involved connect with us!
The League is following the information provided by various federal and provincial health agencies and all levels of government and is committed to implementing appropriate measures as new information emerges.
Stay safe Ritchie!
