Construction Notice: EPCOR installation of fibre optic cable in Ritchie
Between December 2018 and February 2019, EPCOR plans to install a new fibre optic cable between our Garneau and Strathcona substations. Fibre optic cables provide a communications link between neighbouring substations and our control centre. The installation of this new cable will allow us to remotely control our transmission equipment, communicate with other transmission operators and ensure the safety and reliability of the transmission system.
This project will involve:
Installing 6 km of new fibre optic cable underground through existing manholes between the Garneau and Strathcona substations; and
Installing 1 km of new fibre optic cable overhead on existing distribution power poles along 97 street, between 70 Ave and 79 Ave.
A map of the route that will be used to install the underground and overhead cable is included below.
We will be distributing the attached construction notice to residents, occupants and landowners in your community next week with more information about the project and some foreseeable impacts including temporary road closures, parking restrictions, construction noise and planned power outages. We wanted to send you a copy of this package in advance of that mailing so that you are aware of information we are sharing with your community members and to make ourselves available should you or residents have any questions or concerns.
Thank you in advance for your time. Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can provide any additional information or if you wish to speak about the project in more detail. I and members of our Public Consultation team can be reached at 780-412-4040 or consultation@epcor.com.
